It’s Important to Pay Your Debts On Time so That the Rich Will Not Rule Over You

The Bible Tells Us to Pay Our Debts

The Holy Bible does give us a few suggestions on how we should handle our finances.  For starters, paying your credit cards, mortgage payments, utility bills on time should be a priority.  It’s important to not let these bills linger.  Many people spend excess amounts of money in late fees.  Many men and women get themselves into high amounts of debt.

Let us look at Romans 13:8.  This Bible verse tells us to pay all of our debts.  Christians are called to be honest, trustworthy and content with what the Lord gives to them. Don’t try to buy something that you know you cannot afford. This has gotten people into trouble throughout the course of their lives.  If you live your life on a day by day basis and accept God’s will, you will see that you can make it in life.  We often don’t need the merchandise that we think we need.

Proverbs 3:27-28 tells us to not withhold payment of our debts. If you are withholding a payment because you feel like you need the money to buy something new, pay your debts first.  Always think about getting out of debt.  In this way, you can feel more free.  Know that God provides for you and obedience to him means letting go of fear.  We often fear having no money when we pay our debts.  Many people look at paying their debts as having less money in their bank account. However, in reality you are showing love to the person that you owe money to.

Proverbs 22:7 tells us that the rich rule over the poor. It also tells us that you are a slave to the lender.  If you own a home, you probably already know that the mortgage company sets the rules when your payment is due.  If you don’t pay within the specified time, the bank threatens foreclosure.  If you don’t pay your credit cards on time, you will have to pay high interest on your cards.  There is always a penalty that you owe the lender.

If you work for minimum wage, you probably feel like you are a slave.  The reason is because you are working for low wages and can barely pay your bills.  This seems to be a trend in the United States right now. The rich are rulling over the poor.  They get richer off the backs of the poor.  This seems to be the way in which the world works. This certainly isn’t God’s way.  Will the rich get away with this?  The Bible says that its easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, then for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God (Mark 10:25).

God wants the rich to give to the poor and to not mistreat them.  Paying someone a fair wage is a way of saying that you care.  Take our finances seriously. In all things, show God that you are faithful to his word.
