Luisa was an 18-year-old woman when she had an abortion. Her parents were devout Christians and told her to never have the abortion. They believed that a soul was present at the time of conception. Luisa had conflicting thoughts about her abortion before she decided to have it. Her boyfriend was in favor of the abortion since he was also 18 years old. They both felt like they couldn’t handle the financial responsibilities of taking care of a baby. The couple also decided that adoption was out of the question because they knew how devastating most children feel when they find out that they were put up for adoption.
Against her parents’ wishes, Luisa had the abortion on June 15, 1991. She had the procedure done by a professional doctor that was the best in the medical industry. Luisa felt safe and secure.
Luisa cried for around two weeks after she had the procedure. Her heart kept on convicting her of taking another person’s life. She wasn’t a Christian, but her conscience was eating away at her. She kept on asking herself, “What have I done?” In her mind, she pictured what the baby would have looked like and she had no idea if it would have been a boy or a girl. She was only one month pregnant when she decided on having the abortion.
Luisa’s parents never brought up the abortion again after she had the procedure. They simply prayed for her and asked God to forgive her for what she had done.
After the abortion, Luisa’s boyfriend left her for another woman. Several years passed by and Luisa was dating another man. She was now 25 years old. Within a year, the couple decided to get married.
At the age of 26 ½, Luisa got pregnant again. She was so happy. Her husband called all his friends and family to tell them the good news. They even had a pregnancy party. It was going to be the couple’s first baby.
After 2 months of being pregnant, Luisa was told that she had a miscarriage. This devastated her and felt like she was being punished by God for what she had done years ago.
Around eight months after the miscarriage, she was able to get pregnant again. At this point, the baby was growing fine. Luisa was already six months into her pregnancy. However, on one winter night in December, she woke up screaming and said to her husband, “Please take me to the hospital. Something is wrong with me.”
When the emergency room took tests, they informed her that she was having an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy in which the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus. The doctor said that they would have to operate at once to remove the fetus or else Luisa could die. It was a serious life-threatening condition. Luisa had to say awake during the procedure. Luisa said that she had to give birth to a dead baby.
As you can imagine, Luisa was horrified by pregnancy at this point of her life. Luisa and her husband decided to take a break for a couple of years and try again for a child at a later point. She couldn’t take any more heartache.
A few years passed, and Luisa got pregnant again at 32. After three months of being pregnant, her doctor told her that she had another miscarriage. Luisa was feeling angry at God for not allowing her to have a child. She asked her doctor what was going on with her. He explained to her that there is a good chance that she has a weakened cervix because of the abortion that she had at the age of 18. This causes many women to have difficult sustaining pregnancy later in life.
Luisa realized that this may be her fate. She had no idea that this would happen to her. Luisa kept on getting pregnant over the years. However, she always had a miscarriage. She was never able to stay pregnant past 6 months. Something always went wrong. Today, Luisa is 45 years old, divorced and childless. She has given her life to Jesus Christ and repented of her sins. Luisa concluded that she was not going to get pregnant.
Luisa’s story is shared by thousands of women around the world. This is the side of abortion that abortion doctors often don’t want to tell you.
